Day 18 – December 15, 2017

All Quiet on the Western Front . . .

I haven’t posted for about 10 days because after the dramatic denuding of trees, work at the site has been less sensational.  However, it was sobering to see the neatly cut tree trunks stacked and waiting for giant logging trucks to haul them away:

Then, enormous wood chippers ran almost non-stop for a couple of days, creating mountains of chips.

12:8:17Call me a drama queen, but I couldn’t help being reminded of the battlefields of the Somme after a particularly brutal shelling.

george-silhouetteLocal Ossingtonian George DeBarbiery would know what I mean.  (Sorry, that was a shameless plug for my other blog.)

Today, things look ominously calm.  That 1860s-era farmhouse looks naked and defenseless, doesn’t it?

12:12 all quiet 2I’ve been getting lots of questions about how this parcel could be zoned for apartment buildings.  It’s a long, complicated story and I want to get my facts straight before I post anything.  But watch this space!

  1. Thanks so much for posting this Caroline. Seeing all those wonderful trees cut down hurts, but seeing the little Japanese Maple still standing in front of the house shows at least a spec of respect.
I am not looking forward to the moment when the house goes down but I guess it is inevitable one of these days.
It would be terrific if you or someone else could get the actual demolition on film, even if just shot with a phone. It would be great to have for the documentary on Dr Puharich which we are currently making.
