Day #139 – Construction Sequence Plan

So, I know nothing about how buildings are built and I have to say, it’s kind of fascinating to watch the development of 87 Hawkes Avenue.  As it is with so much in life, things happen at a glacial pace and then BOOM, something that wasn’t there is suddenly there, or something that WAS there is gone.  (See my previous post on the old pump house here.)

For the past several weeks, it’s just seemed as if large mounds of dirt were being moved around and the site was being graded.  Then, just a few days ago, piles of plastic piping were delivered and a large, swimming pool sized hole was dug.  (See Stage IV below, there is going to be a pool, but I don’t know if this hole is the pool.)

I think that’s a storm drain in the foreground, but maybe not.  I’m no construction engineer.

Now, here you can find the entire Construction Sequence Plan which details what’s going to happen, when, and how long it should take.  From my amateur sleuth reading of it, it seems that we are in Stage I:Screen Shot 2018-04-16 at 4.11.21 PMThey’re also planning to install the foundations for Building No. 1 and No. 2 during this stage, something that I don’t think has happened yet.  Maybe that’s what the big hole is?

But then, Stage 2 includes the following:

It seems like they’re doing the rough grading and installing drainage, so maybe we’ve already progressed to Stage II?  Or maybe the stages don’t necessarily happen sequentially?

And, since I’ve got the Construction Sequence Plan up, here’s a peek at the rest of the stages which will happen over the next two years or so (and I guess that means we won’t get Hawkes Avenue repaved any time soon!):

  1. I think that hole may be part of the drainage work. It seems crazy that they would put a pool in before anything else, it that is what I first thought it was too. Hmmmmm…..

Blame my iPad for any typos.
